  The beliefs of physicians so many years ago were based on what they knew at the time. For example, my brother was born in 1952 with Down Syndrome. His very respected doctor told my mother that he would probably not live past 4 years old and that she should probably put him in an institution. She and my dad decided not to do that. They kept him at home and then from age 6-18 he went to a special school. After that he lived in a group home with similar folks and thrived. He lived to 53. He was a precious soul and I adored him. Thank goodness medicine has progressed and people are benefiting from updated wisdom.

  This is so sad, Matthew Perry experienced childhood neglect in spades. He died of a broken heart like most of us who suffered the same in our growth years. SAD. I weep.

  I remember having bad menstrual cramps. My mother was on 5mg oxy because of spinal stenosis due to MS. I broke one in half and took it. My cramps went away, but I felt an overwhelming sense of well being. I mean the house could have burned down and I felt it would be ok. It was such a scary feeling for me when I thought about that. Never touched it again!

  I think this is so, so sad!! The amount of us who loved watching Friends and in particular, Chandler&apos;s dark, passive-aggressive sense of humour. How many of us could&apos;ve predicted that he was suffering so badly behind closed doors?! What&apos;s even worse is seeing how many doctors who he put his trust in failed him miserably!! RIP Matthew. You will be forever missed!😢😭❤🙏

  Sober now 11 yrs but my experience with alcohol is similar sounding - first time<br>I drank I knew it was going to be a lifelong issue. I was 13

  This is a very good video that I can relate to so much. I had crippling anxiety as a teenager. I drank alcohol for the first time at 15 and remember the enormous peace and wellbeing I felt that night. What followed was a decade of addiction struggles but I eventually got clean in my late 20s. (Mid 40s now). The most helpful thing I have ever done for my mental health was starting to run. It has helped me immensely and much more than any prescription drug ever did. Exercise and getting my body as fit and healthy as possible has been the key to a happy life for me and a way of dealing with stress.

  This is EXACTLY how I felt the first time I took Klonopin at Auburn. I said to myself, “this is the key to my brain that I’ve been missing my entire life.” It was such a trap and nobody gave me a heads up about it.

  So true. I&apos;ve been suffering with really bad breathing issues from a rhinoplasty I had years ago (back when I was also addicted to drugs, which I used to numb constant insecurity). And I felt so helpless and trapped, like my life was over. Finally just committing to going to the gym every day has really turned things around so radically- I think part of the breathing issues was being dehydrated, not moving enough, living such a sendantary life going from screen to screen to screen. Just a week into going to the gym every day I already feel like I&apos;ve got my life back and can speak to people and enjoy it again.

  You have a much better grasp of addiction than most physicians. &nbsp;In childhood I suffered sexual abuse. &nbsp;My default emotions were fear and shame. &nbsp;From my first drink I &nbsp;was an alcoholic. &nbsp;My last drink was October 12, 1991 and thanks to AA I haven&apos;t had a drink since. &nbsp;In my first month another recovering alcoholic said &quot;when you&apos;re sober you get to be present for your life. &nbsp;I was horrified!! &nbsp;What I know is you must have a burning desire to be sober and it doesn&apos;t sound like Matthew was. &nbsp;I also know that denial and rationalization are always present, even 34 years later.
