This book sounds like a great description of very severe anxiety, especially social anxiety

The most disturbing part of this book is that you yourself can relate to it.

Describing my childhood in a video called "The Most Disturbing Book Ever Written" is mildly unsettling.

I just want to take a moment and say that I just love the style of your videos, man. No theatrics, no extra fancy editing/effects, no biased narrative, no unnecessary glazing; just 40 minutes of pure intellectual discussion/dissection. You're one of my favorite content creators currently. Keep it up man.

31:00 At this point in the novel, I'd also argue that Oba's self hatred has become such a deep-seated part of his identity that, in addition to his general mistrust and seeing a threat everywhere, he couldn't even grasp the concept of somebody helping him, even if he recognised it. Likely, he would dismiss it merely because it was help directed towards himself, for in hating yourself, receiving kindness is an excessively strange and unfamiliar thing.

I read this book a while ago, and I thought the epilogue — where Madam described Oba as an “angel” — was quite telling. Throughout most of the book, Oba portrays himself as grotesque, hiding what he believes to be his monstrous nature. There seems to be a disconnect between how he sees himself and how others view him. Yet, he was by no means an angel. Nor was he a monster. He was simply human. When I reached the epilogue, I desperately wanted Madam to say that he was human, like any other. Reading the book left me constantly questioning what it truly means to be human.

Oba was disturbingly human. His perception was just wildly distorted. Perception might as well be reality; it often shapes reality anyway.
