I grew up in Alto Village in the 70’s a few miles from Benito Lake. Never heard of this but “No country for Old Men” is no joke in Southwest NM.

Camped there 25 years ago. It was closed but we were young. Super cold wind and rain all night. Absolutely deserted except for me and my girlfriend. Woke up to sounds of giggling children and flashlights hitting the tent at 2-3am. Revisited the lake a couple years ago during the day and immediately became ill. Bonito no bueno

There is a book I read about Mysteries n Mericles of New Mexico and it claimed the boarding house was "so haunted" that everyone left town because at night you would hear screams and see dark entities.So they say everyone would leave the town and they wanted to silence the sounds so they would make a dam and eventually the water raised and it was finally gone for good.The story in the book was a way better story then the lady just said.<br>God Bless
