Modern Superbikes Have a Problem… Suzuki Might Have Fixed It - 2026 GSXR1000R Road Tested!

The superbike arms race has given us more power, more electronics, more technology and increasingly track-focused motorcycles… but has it actually made them better to ride on the road? In this video, I’m testing the brand-new 2026 Suzuki GSX-R1000R to find out whether Suzuki has taken a different approach. We start at Donington Park - somewhere a GSX-R1000R should feel completely at home, but that’s not really what this test is about. I want to know what happens when you take a near-200bhp superbike away from the circuit and put it where most owners will actually use it: on the road. While other manufacturers continue to chase bigger numbers, increasingly sophisticated electronics and more track-focused performance, the new GSX-R feels refreshingly familiar. There’s no huge TFT dashboard, no electronic suspension and no attempt to completely reinvent what a superbike should be. But underneath that old-school approach there's still 192bhp, an IMU, lean-sensitive ABS, traction control, launch control, a bidirectional quickshifter and Suzuki's mechanical variable valve timing. It reminds me of what we're beginning to see in the car world. After years of downsizing, hybridisation and automation, enthusiasts are once again getting excited about big engines, manual gearboxes and cars that prioritise involvement over technology. So has Suzuki fallen behind the competition? Or have they realised that modern superbikes have become so capable, expensive and track-focused that we've forgotten what made us want them in the first place?
