  I'm ex Navy and have a ex SAS Mate, I played a minor part in a SAS opp in the early 70's, my mate  he can talk about somethings, usually fuck up in training,  but I wouldn't ask him anything, I'm aware of security, I had a Girlfriend who was similar, a Radio Operator Special, they know shit they can never talk about, but it takes a special type of person to be accepted to even train in those fields and anyone looking for glory won't make it.

  A former neighbour of my parents filled that role with that group and spent time in that region. Don't know if this was him because he could never say where he had been but his wife did spot him on TV one time. What I learned in some of the conversations that I had with him was exactly what was mentioned. 2km+ day or night. If he wanted you dead there was nothing you could do about it.

  The commentary misses the most salient points:<br>1. Preservation of hard-earned experience “corporate knowledge”<br>2. Rigorous selection of troops (SASR typically winnows candidates before they attend Selection THEN about 10% make it to graduation)<br>3. Personnel retention, once a part of “The Regiment” personnel are retained in the Regiment, they are trained by and train the troops they operate with, knowledge and skills are imparted formally via Courses AND informally via hundreds of interactions, discussions and examinations.<br>4. Cycling of personnel, troops cycle into and out and back again, operators don’t get “used” regardless, they are applied with precision and knowledge.<br>5. MONEY, the SASR Operator is a very highly paid Specialist AND when in combat, paid MUCH more, this means less stress to be promoted, less stress to “advance” and an acceptance that to remain is to be valued.

  Have no doubt guys, the SAS were the most feared soldier Vietnam. Ma Rung. Psychologically and physically superior operators, able to adapt to any terrain or conditions; mostly stealth, getting the vital intell. &nbsp;Or, when able, eliminate without casualties. Unbelievable soldiers, aptly named, Phantom of the Jungle. <br>Sincere plaudits to all who have served.
