I served as an officer in the Australian Army. I'm old and grumpy now and looking for things to occupy my time. But back in 2001, my sister married a US Army officer. Great guy. A brother. And a beautiful wedding it was in Michigan. Lots of US military uniforms as the family my sister married into were all US Army and US Navy. But I'll never forget an older (back then) US Army Chief Warrant Officer 5 (CW5) came up to me as I grabbed a drink to tell me how much he loved the Australians. He knew I served and he saluted me even though I'd already left the Army. That showed me the respect the Americans have for us. Not me. Us.I'll never forget the pride I felt at that moment. Thought I'd share. Carry on. As you were.

Australian and New Zealand soldiers don't fight in war they hunt.
We also don't march we walk in unison.
We don't take orders we agree to do something together.
We trust in our leaders and our leaders trust in us if we don't they will no longer be our leader or our mate.

In 2007 when visiting Indianapolis for a trade show, a big American guy intorduced himself - he was an ex high ranking military guy. He said "I love Australia - we went to Townsville to train the Australians - ended up getting trained".

Served with Aussie military as a UN Peacekeeper in Timor Leste in 2000, and they were simply brilliant. Clearly well trained, they were ” firm but friendly” for the long suffering local population , who adored them, and had a simple message for hostile Indonesian militias: ” If you cross the border with bad intentions, you will be killed..”
Those militias were never a problem.

The British SAS learned its tricks about small teams from the Australian soldiers trapped in Tobruk during WW II. At night those soldiers would go out in small teams, harass Rommel's forces and then be back in Tobruk before dawn. Rommel had very high regard for these soldiers.
In Vietnam the SASr showed the Green Berets and Seal Teams how they should be fighting, but they couldn't do it within the US military structure.

Morshead, Australian Commander at Tobruk, 1941, said that he expected Australian troops to think for themselves in tough situations. He knew that anyway. He fought with goodness knows how many Diggers in WW1. Nothing new here. It should be common knowledge how good our soldiers have been and are still.

FM Rommel said, ''If I wanted to take Hell, I'd send in the Australians and I'd send the New Zealanders to hold it''.

I love that this is not read by AI. I don’t often watch until the end. Thank you.

I have a feeling our SASR is going to become less appealing to future soldiers

Thinking that WWII, Malaya and Borneo were major underpinning experiences for Vietnam and the rest is just as amazing.
