I still remember that interview with Alonso when he was asked who was the best driver at the time. Hard pressed to find much better praise than that, this guy definitely at the very least had a championship in him. Right team wrong time, wrong team right time, whatever the case, he just never had the machinery that could do it.

The only what if that sees Danny living to his potential is him moving to McLaren first instead of Renault. That puts him with a rookie Lando who does not have 2 years to build trust with the team. In addition, it was always weird to me that he went to the team who ultimately built the engines that failed him so often.

I remember when there was a lot of rumors of him going to Ferrari replacing Kimi. But yet again another prodigy came up to take that sea, just like a Red Bull.
