Fascinating. I can't wait to see how many points Everton are deducted because of this.

I genuinely think this is the biggest sporting scandal ever. The prolonged nature of the financial doping is unmatched. Especially considering the success they had during the period of cheating.

Reading through the redacted court documents was an insane experience. They literally recorded their sponsorship revenue as over 900 million when in reality the actual sponsorship revenue was only a bit over 100 million, with the rest being actually funded by the ownership group itself but recorded as coming from those sham sponsorship deals. How any large scale entity thinks it can get away with just blatantly lying about the source of 90% of its sponsorship revenue is genuinely fucking bonkers.

Also, the "Why shouldn't owners be able to invest in their football clubs????" is a dead on arrival argument because they can! If owners wish to upgrade their clubs stadium, youth academy, training facilities, etc.. they can and those investments/expenditures aren't counted towards FFP/SCR. What certain fans (Newcastle primarily..) mean by "investment" is their owners splashing hundreds of millions beyond their clubs means on players.

As an American I was shocked by the Clipper and Dodgers scandals but this seems to be order of magnitude worse, shocking stuff in the world of sports

When the story broke a few days ago I didn’t think Man City were going to get anything harsher than a mild point deduction and a fine. But now, it feels like something a lot more serious might be coming. Hopefully relegation to non-league.

I keep forgetting how stacked Newcastle would be if their owner was allowed to make them into a vanity project and outspend everyone else.

Several findings by the commission involve City personel committing what amounts to criminal fraud. Although no criminal charges have yet to be filed.
