Glad you decided to reupload. YouTube has no right to silence a video about male gays.

Why gaze at women when we can gaze into the abyss? Atleast it gazes back.

It is surprising that Alice Eve's space bikini is considered censor-worthy but Carrie Fisher's is not.

I watched the original upload and what you have had to censor really just strengthens your point.

On a website that, when personal ads are blocked and many plugins are used to strip it down, still primarily advertises dating and hook ups, women’s lingerie… yet asks creators like yourself to censor the very same sorts of images. It feels like little more than the flexing of authority and control. The topic, the contents seem irrelevant really in that light. The blatant hypocrisy makes it impossible to claim that it is topical or specific in any meaningful way.

I love your video essays. I like to sit with and consider replies to them (philosophy being what I do) yet I rarely comment online due to whole climate of it, the weather of it and that nature is more worthy of my time. But I always come back to watch thoughtful and beautifully made videos like yours.

"Wanting to be wanted on the full spectrum of desirability" is exactly why women object, when they do object (which is not always) to the male gaze. The problem is not sexual desire - it is sexual desire that is felt toward only a tiny fraction of what the woman experiences herself to be, making her feel like she has to shrink herself into a tiny sliver of femininity just to keep being wanted. The rejection of "the larger part of her" makes her want to lash out in protest. A woman does not want to feel tiny in the eyes of a lover - she wants to feel expanded, enriched, to discover that there is even more to her than even she previously thought.

It makes me consider the 1995 Pride and Prejudce (2005 also, but the 6 hr series can spend much more time on Darcy's gaze). Darcy is constantly gazing at Elizabeth, yet women never object to the "male gaze" present in the films. I think one of the keys is that he is often contemplating her character. He praises her beauty and also her intelect. His gaze is not consuming, rather it is discovering, understanding, longing, and later when she is receptive, is connecting. Additionally, the story invites the viewer to see both of their perspectives. Lastly, his actions are respectful and restrained, even when preceded by long study. His gaze always leaves him connected to her humanity and governed by her wishes, instead of isolating him from her humanity and subject to his own desires.

The best example of the romantic male gaze is from The Last of the Mohicans, when Daniel Day-Lewis's Hawkeye stands looking at Cora in the early morning light. She challenges him angrily at first - "What are you looking at?" - and he says very simply and disarmingly "I'm looking at you, miss." She draws herself up as if to say, well, get a good look, then. They smile at each other and he leaves to go defend the fort or something.
