  It has been hitting home with me that prophecy in the new testament has a purpose that the church isn&apos;t generally using it for. &nbsp;Not to call out that someone out there God is going to heal, &nbsp;or what they did today, what they prayed etc. &nbsp; I think Jesus used it to convice of sin. Paul talked about it in that way as well-<s>if an unbeliever walks in and hears prophetic word it will get his attention because he will know he personally is a sinner. &nbsp;I don&apos;t go to charismatic churches anymore, but used to, &nbsp;and I do not recall anyone doing that. Jesus when he met the woman at the well He said you have had 5 husbands and you aren&apos;t married to the one you have now-</s> this is revealing sin. &nbsp;there is prophecy to tell people what is going to happen--such as telling Paul he&apos;ll be persecuted--but mainly wasn&apos;t prophecy to do with conviction of sin?

  As I understand it, Bat Kol is known in the oral tradition as the voice of YHVH or the voice of the Holy Spirit

  @<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zWSVvoGen70&amp;t=853">14:13</a> the most logical response to this is: <br>“Then God, in his sovereignty, can speak prophetically today in the same way, without meaning to preserve it as Scripture.” <br><br>In other words, the Cessationist cannot say both things. <br><br>He cannot say, <br><br>“If God is still prophesying today, it should be added to Scripture.” <br><br>And also say,<br><br>“God did prophesy through Phillips daughters, but he sovereignly chose that it should not be preserved as Scripture.” <br><br>Those principles logically contradict each other.

  John the Baptist was calling out the general community at the time to repent for the kingdom of God was coming which would include all manner of defiled and open sinners. The scribal community at Qumran was very exclusive and cultish . There would be a huge conflict between John and that community and he would have been a rogue operator if you read the Community rule. There was a typical desert community in and around the area so it could appear he could be a part of them especially from priestly background but according to their community rules he would not be part of them
