I have lived in Petersburg and Dinwiddie Co. all of my life and have traveled all over VA and it is some of the most beautiful, diverse land you can imagine. In the whole Commonwealth you need not travel far to find true, old world charm... I don't plan on leaving ❤

Virginian here. The way we know a person isn't from VA is they pronounce the L in Norfolk. There are two acceptable ways to say the name of this city without looking like a tourist. The long timers, those who have had family here for hundreds of year saw Naw-fuk and frankly the u in that is practically swallowed. There is barely a vowel in the second syllable at all. The other way that won't result in people laughing at you is NOR-fik. You're welcome.
