In the 1970s a patient escaped and killed a few individuals, placing their dismembered bodies in trash bags and cardboard boxes leaving them in the corn fields. Why this hasn't been documented is beyond me. I lived on a farm outside of Manteno, I rode my horse through those fields.

I live in Manteno! My dad has been to the hospital years ago before businesses took over. There’s tunnels running between buildings. Looked at a house in the neighborhood within the facility property basically. Could not deal with the spirits there

I helped tear a lot of those asbestos ridden buildings. Also built a lot of the homes there. I don’t really believe in ghosts but we had some strange things happen and heard and seen some strange things while working there. We would run through the buildings before they were torn down. We found records and old soap all over that place. It was def a weird place to do work. I lived in Manteno for years now live in Bourbonnais. Always hated living in Manteno goofys. And ins pronounced Man-T-No!!! Manteno
