  Sammy, his wife, and body guard came to Morton's in Chicago one night. I sent him a bottle of Haut Brion just because I'm a huge fan. I expected nothing in return and just gave him a nice wave when he looked over. After dinner he sent a bottle of Cognac and had the manager (get this) ask if it would be okay if he came over? Oh heck yes, it would be awesome. His wife got a limo back the hotel as she was tired. Sammy came over and sat with us for about 20 minutes or so. What a wonderful, down to earth, and humble man. It was one of my best night's out ever.

  A friend of mine saw Sammy perform at his club in Cabo. Said he came out after the set and met with the fans. He was a really friendly guy.

  I grew up in the 1960s on Holliston Ave. in Pasadena, CA just a couple of houses down the street from the Van Halen family. Although I was just a kid at the time, my older siblings were about the same age as Eddie and knew him quite well. There was a family that lived directly across the street from the Van Halen’s place and I remember clearly David Lee Roth pulling up to that house on his motorcycle almost every day and he would recline on that bike waiting for one of the daughters (name omitted) of that house to come home and they would take off together every evening to score dr*gs.<br>Sammy Hagar showed up one year and Sammy’s dad must have been quite wealthy because he fronted the band the money to buy a studio in a very ritzy neighborhood south of Pasadena (I believe in San Marino?). As I stated earlier, I was too young to be friends with any of those guys personally, but I do recall that on Halloween, the Van Halen family always gave out the best candy! I also remember hearing them practice playing all the way down the street inside my house. Please remember, these kids were not the rock stars that they are today back then. And please don’t troll this comment by accusing me of lying. I never claimed to be a friend of any of those guys and quite frankly, I have never been much of a fan of Van Halen either. My musical preferences went a different direction. I just figured at my age, it might be kind of fun to tell everyone a couple of interesting facts from the band’s very early years. 😉

  I got to meet Sammy at a Chile Peppers concert in SAC. He was there trying to get Cabo Wabo in the arena. Met him in the hall because we were both late for the show. He was with his wife, and I recognized him immediately. &nbsp;But, I had to ask... &quot;Hey, your Sammy Hagar.&quot; I got that Sammy Smile. Turns out our seats were next to each other. The Peppers crowd didn&apos;t really know who He was. He was a genuine dude that gave me a time of day.

  Van Halen was my favorite band with both Dave and Sammy! When Dave left the band I animatedly stated that VH needs Sammy. Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought it would come to reality soon after. Even though Sam and Dave may not be friends, they 100% respect each other for their roles in Van Halen. Dave is the only band member that I’ve never met, maybe someday.

  I was fortunate to see Van Hagar in the 90’s and they were amazing! &nbsp;I have always loved Sammy, bought his Standing Hampton album in high school.

  I love Van Halen with DLR up until left and love Van Hagar. &nbsp; Truly was the best of both worlds.

  Saw this when it first came out. I was there for both versions and love them both for different reasons. Appreciate Sammy as time moves on. We all have challenges in our life, even being a fabulously wealthy rock star is not immune to life&apos;s hardship but you only fuel it with addiction. Eddie was and will always be the best in my eyes. Sammy is the fine wine, Dave has merely aged rather than matured but when he first burst out of the bottle nothing tasted better.

  Saw Van Halen , Black Sabbath, Sammy Hagar in 1978, first four VH albums were my high school years
