  Skye has two main problems: absentee landowners and sheep. Weirdly I remember the local schools teaching kids about the horrors of deforestation in the Amazon. I felt like screaming “look out of the window at the treeless desert the sheep have created”. And how did this start? Well the absentee landowners found sheep to be more profitable than people.

  Skye is beautiful, and even in July, in 2025, excepting the fairy pools of about 100, I saw a very good amount of Skye. Portree was difficult, so book ahead . Portree is the same.

  I do think property ought to be able to be bought by residents, the if they wish to make money on it themselves, very well, but one can’t have property being bought extensively international people and expect an area to not turn into a theme &nbsp;park.

  Debunking the myth that the island was full, then adding more myths. People are not being forced out of their homes into caravans in summer, but to make more money. Motorhomers not buying food or contributing to the economy is total drivel.

  Thank you for sharing. So many memories before the bridge was built, the only way over was on the ferry. The &nbsp;Post bus was still running taking passengers to remote villages and delivering messages for the locals. The hills were quiet and peaceful. A wonderful place to roam. Now gone. Sad.
