The basis and answers for many of your gripes can be found in AW1 and Control. The clicker is an Object of Power. The lake is an altered world event where any art can become reality. It was a big part of AW1. The whole story is based on Zane doing it first, Alan second, Tor and Odin third. All of them were in the previous game.

I love how this game isn't just a sequel to Alan Wake but to Control and Quantum Break.

While watching the video i saw the sub count and thought i was too sleepy to read it correctly. Surely it has to be 55k subs at least, not 55. What a good quality videos for such a tiny channel.

Your video made me want to experience everything you described - good and bad. Thanks for the insightful details! Alan Wake 2 looks amazing.

There is a third side of the coin of Survival Horror, and the one Alan Wake 2 is the most aligned with: Silent Hills.
Game feel and strategic thinking being on the back foot and giving more focus on ambient, atmosphere and story. My issue with Alan Wake 2 in general is that it doesn't commit enough.
Like the mind place, the writter room, etc.
A lot of the ideas are tentative and seem to lack boldness.
I think Remedy really feared that AL2 wouldn't sell and we can feel it. ( and it's true that it's a bit of a financial gambit for them as the first game took a long while to start getting profitable)
I'm curious to see how the DLCs will turn out
I think we can expect much more experimentation there

Wonderful video, great analysis! Regarding whether the game takes place in the Dark Place or not towards the ending, my personal theory is that Bright Falls essentially, like you said, became one big Overlap when "dark casey" used the clicker. The writer's room in the attic of Valhalla is maybe the real variant of the writer's room and the Dark Place simply reflects that place, or Valhalla might just have one of the Doors Between akin to the Oceanview Motel in Control. Regardless, I think intent in this case matters. Saga got out because of her mastery over her emotions and Ahti's aid. Alan went back in willingly. As they defeat Scratch, most likely the Bright Falls overlap recedes as the dark place retreats into the lake, taking Alan with it because he willingly entered and let himself once again be claimed by it as part of his heroic sacrifice. It could not do that with Saga or Casey, since both still have a stronger connection to the real world than cauldron lake either by defeating and escaping the dark place (Saga) or just being lucky and exorcised by saga and alan (casey).

I don't know exactly, but it feels like Alan "chose" to go back in order to rectify things and that all three can interact because they share some interim space that is both reality and dark place simultaneously for a moment. This might be overthinking it, but it's the only one I can imagine that allows for the plot to work the way it did.

I think the diagram in the lighthouse will play a role in the future. Possibly putting an end to the Dark Place for good (and rescuing Alice).

i can’t believe this video has so little views. what a fantastic critique/review. incredibly well written, well paced & engaging. kept my attention the entire time and also made me really want to play this game. though i’m pretty bad at survival horror so maybe i’ll convince my boyfriend to play it and watch him hahah

all I'll say about the game play is "this game is a monster this game will eat you alive"

There's a lot of things that were explained that I think you may have missed. The ending doesn't take place in the dark place. They're in the top floor of the Valhalla Nursing Home. The Dark Presence took over Bright Falls and recreated Deer Fest in a twisted version that focused on Alan's insecurities as a famous writer.
