  I&apos;ve heard literally every band called a sellout at some point. Lemmy of Motorhead told a story of how the early Motorhead were playing small gigs in the mid 1970s and got a small but dedicated &nbsp;following. As soon as they got a recording &nbsp;contract a &nbsp;guy came up to Lemmy after a show and said he would no longer come to see them, he thought they had sold out just by getting a recording contract. That&apos;s how absurd it can get. <br>Even some most acclaimed bands could be accused of selling out. Almost all the big 1970s bands went more polished and commercial in the 1980s. Rush, Queen, Genesis, Yes,. Even metal bands like Scorpions and Judas Priest. &nbsp;Iron Maiden went a little poppy in 1986, and Saxon spent about 5 years trying to crack America with a slick pop metal sound. Ozzy Osbourne was doing silly hair metal mostly throughout the 1980s. And Robert Plant was churning out slick pop rock albums far removed from Led Zeppelins sound. Consider too that the greatest composers were writing music in exchange for money. Beethoven was often on a commission, he didn&apos;t always get to write what he wanted, he was following what his publishers wanted. The music wasn&apos;t bad though, &nbsp;but it was written with commercial interests underlying it all.<br><br>And &nbsp;you forgot The Beatles. In 1961 and early 1962 they were a raw rock &amp; roll band playing clubs in Germany and The Cavern. Brian Epstein saw the potential, got them wearing suits and matching hair styles and got them to apply their burgeoning songwriting skills to writing happy pop songs. And Dark Side Of The moon is a sellout. It&apos;s an accessible album of soft rock with session musicians. Saxophone, backing vocalist. The lyrics are somehow meant to be deep and there are cool sound effects added but musically this is not prog or space rock at all. It&apos;s soft rock in the same vein as Fleetwood and 10 cc. Oh and Fleetwood Mac sold out too because early on they were a hard blues act, and.........okay enough typing, the message is clear.<br><br>Complaining about selling out is really just down to snobbery at the end of the day. Or a kind of inverted snobbery. People can&apos;t seem to bear the thought of &apos;their&apos; band being liked by the &apos;masses&apos;. Well the &apos;masses&apos; is a fiction. You yourself will be seen as one of the masses to someone else.

  As much of a sellout Liz Phair&apos;s self titled album was. It&apos;s not as awful as Funstyle.

  I don&apos;t care about if a band is a sellout as long as I still like the music. Tbh. Sometimes people passion ain&apos;t that big. Sometimes they are just good at it and have fun and attention. Sometimes it&apos;s not even out of passion.

  The first concert i ever went to was Heart and Autograph opened for them. I was 5 and the main thing i remember was the drummer for Autograph turning up a 5th in the middle of the show during a break and the singer saying kill it you puss* lol. It was1985, ah the good ol days

  How about a Japanese band? No group from that country sold out harder than X Japan. They went from songs like &quot;I&apos;ll Kill You&quot; and &quot;Sadistic Desire&quot; to &quot;Forever Love&quot; and &quot;Angel&quot;. I mean, the last few songs they released were softer and more commercial due to a combination of Yoshiki desperately trying to break America and Toshi&apos;s voice completely going to shit, but yeah.

  as a songwriter myself, I can&apos;t even understand thinking about hiring a songwriter to give me a hit. Like, why should I let someone do for me what I love doing most?<br>It&apos;s instant sellout to me
