  I love how he doesn't seem entitled. He respects the community he's represented for nearly 2 decades so much and he takes his responsibility so seriously. That's honourable.

  I used to crush on James. I was doing extra work in Hollyoaks. My first day I was lost James took his time to show me around. He was a total gem and helpful.

  What a fantastic man. I think when someone is that open, accepting and genuinely interested in understanding who we are and what we go through then for me at least it completely gets rid of any worries about straight men playing gay characters. I was growing up and going through school during section 28, and to see any kind of representation, anything that made me feel less alone was huge. I'm so glad that James made the decision to take that role and make it so authentic because it will have made a huge difference to many people.

  John Paul is the main reason this Californian has been watching &quot;Hollyoaks&quot; for years. <br><br>James Sutton is such a lovely guy. I want to see him as diverse characters in big budget movies.

  First and foremost, James Sutton is an excellent actor. I remember one scene where he was John Paul going into a gay bar for the first time and perfectly got that mixture of fear and lust in just a couple of facial expressions. He plays a gay man on screen better than some gay actors play gay men on screen. The best thing about the Craig and John Paul relationship is that it allowed for one of the greatest lines ever uttered in a soap. Myra, John Paul&apos;s mother, was having a fight with Craig&apos;s mum just after John Paul returned to Hollyoaks without Craig. &quot;At least my gay came back,&quot; shouted Myra. Superb.

  Honestly, James says he doesn&apos;t know what it feels like to be gay, but I believe that his closer then he thinks. He obviously understands love and affection

  The John Paul/Craig storyline was so brilliantly acted. James and Guy really didn’t get the props they deserved but fans know they were the real deal.

  EastEnders did do a gay kiss in 1989, which was obviously almost two decades before the 2007 one on Hollyoaks, and they caught way more flack for it, there was real hate and uproar. Not to say that this Hollyoaks one wasn&apos;t important for some, but the EastEnders team and the BBC, with the actors Michael Cashman and Nicholas Donovan were real trailblazers there.

  After watching this interview I’ve gone back and watched every John Paul and Craig scene and all I can say is OH MY GOD😫, what a storyline and a beautifully portrayed relationship… wish I could of got my happy ending too😔 such a decent down to earth bloke ❤

  John Paul and Craig definitely lead the way in terms of &apos;normalised&apos; LGBT relationships ad representation. It was aired around the same time as Todd &amp; Karl in Corrie and the tabloid headlines to them was &apos;TV airs sick gay kiss&apos;. They cut away from the kiss, whereas Hollyoaks just went all in and it worked. Kudos to James Sutton for his portrayal of the character, he&apos;s done a great job!
