  My dad was born 1911. As a young man out of highschool. He worked as conductor on Michigan to Chicago rail yard. He kick off Hobos. Except winter he to Hobos into caboose when temp drop -18 to -28. Kept them alive. He said if the railroad management knew freezing weather was coming they put food and coffee in the caboose. Many lives were saved. As he walked the train and found them at stops. Dad said. Engineers were cowboys rough and tough they ran these steam engines 110 mph in blizzards! Hobos would freeze to death. Railroad did not want that. 😊

  I worked for Canadian Pacific Railway at the Toronto Yard (Agincourt, ON) in the Refrigeration and Heat department from 1967 through 1969. It was good work, but not what I was wanting to do for the rest of my life. After I turned 25 I then started my truck driving career,  gravel first then bulk cement and finally bulk oil. Thanks for the memories.

  Watched film from the UK . Found it very interesting & have massive respect for all the staff that work on the railroad . They really do earn their pay . God Bless all of them .

  Hello from Queensland Australia. In Australia, a conductor goes on a long-distance passenger train and checks tickets and any other passenger issues. Jay would be called a fireman, an old term from the days of steam trains. He might also be known as the guard, who used to sit in the last special carriage, but we don't have them now. The guard and/or fireman look after any shunting or connection of carriages. Your engineer is what we call a driver because they "drive" the train. It was very interesting to watch what needs to be done to keep your trains moving. I told my hubby about your conductor's job, and he said, "That explains it, why people were incorrectly calling our guards, conductors!" 😊 stay warm and safe.

  It is good to see the comments of real railroads, whose dads and even themselves worked on the railroad. There’s nothing like to practitioner experience. You can tell the truth for what it’s worth and in the rail-road world or transportation, world, free, and moving people as well no one no one can better tell their story than the ones who actually work these jobs. I tipped my hat off onto them. I worked in the Transportation industry in moving people and Freight and I’ve learned one thing people sacrifice their time from their families to make other families and their time worth living in many other cities and villages and towns throughout the continents of the world who move goods and Free to get people a lifestyle in cities and villages that the other way could be a accomplish and live, but through the sacrifices of the many women who work these transportation jobs are absolute all of you haven’t been one myself retired. Keep up the good work, pass on the tradition and the skills needed.

  ONR abandoned its passenger service a few years ago except for the train to Moosonee as there is no road there. The last time I drove past the mill in Kapuskasing, a few years ago, I didn&apos;t see &nbsp;as many freight cars as I did when I went through about 30 years ago. I think the<br>internet is taking its toll on &nbsp;hard copy newspapers.

  I worked for ConRail at the Cleveland Oh Collinwood shops and yard in the late 70s and feel that this is an accurate depiction of how railroads function. Very informative and entertaining, even with the narrator to keep it dramatic and interesting...no complaints here. From my experience it is pretty true to life.
