Many listeners fixate on the song’s controversial content (understandably so), but we must also remind ourselves that no song sounded like this in 1968. This conversion of rock music and samba music was audacious and innovative. It creates a ritualistic, almost primal feeling. The Stones do not get enough accolades for being musically daring and experimental.

The bongos are what keeps the song driving forward. It's easy to notice the guitar and the voice but the thing that makes this song unique is the bongos.

The song was originally written, with the line, “who killed Kennedy”, but after JFK’s brother Bobby, was murdered in June of 1968, while running for President, the lyrics were changed, to reference both assassinations.

The Beatles sang about how the world should be and the STONES sing about how the world is. You got to have Sympathy for the Devil cause he WAS the top evil doer then along comes humans and out do him. I have seen the Stones 15 times and to hear a stadium full of people go Woo Woo is mind blowing. Rock on and do more Stones !.
