The Vampires arrived on the boat, since they cannot survive in sunlight, a dark cargo hold is the perfect place to hide. When the arrived at their destination they would have killed the crew. They had a human do all the dirty work, burn the phones, take out the power, get rid of the helicopter and sled dogs, anything to keep the town more isolated then it already was. In vampire lore they tend to keep humans around to do things like that for them, they are called Familiars, humans that do the bidding of vampires in hopes that they will turn them for being loyal. You may ask why anyone would want that, but as vampires do not age, the temptation of immortality is enough for some people :)

The design of these vampires are fantastic. They look like sharks with the razor teeth and the black eyes. They're just absolute predators.
The art in the comic was next level, it was painted vicious intensity.

One of the better horror movies to come out over the passed 20 years or so. Extremely well done, directed and acted. Ben foster doesn’t get enough credit for his acting chops

In most of the vampire films there is a "Renfield" character that serves the vampires in hopes of getting to join them. He is usually associated with being insane and eating bugs to get their life force. That far north in Alaska there are no insects, so raw meat.

This film is so underrated I don’t think it ever got the attention or recognition it deserved. Highly stylized almost comic book feel too it, fast paced, the acting from the vampires was top tier, and it has some genuinely scary moments and does give you that “no where to escape” feeling. Instant classic imo

In 20:30 Marlow, the leader of these vampires, is actually explaining to the man how lucky he is to only be killed! Turning him into one of them is a fate worse than death: No escape. No hope. Only hunger and pain..
