Temporary studs are a great idea. Honda design is difficult to reassemble and get everything lined up right.

This helped me clean the carb on my 216 and get it running again. I used drill bits as studs.. it worked mostly. I had a bunch of grime in the bowl. I did leave the idle way to high it or maybe I screwed it up messing with idle.. but at least it starts. Too bad you can’t easily adjust idle with the filter cover .. still trying with a massive screwdriver :)

I just finished on a Honda GCV 160 with a fixed air no adjustment, couldn’t easily get into the orifices so I had a new Honda carb and put it on. It ran much much better but still was searching for fuel. Took the new one off and enlarged the main jet ever so slightly. Well it runs and idles like it should now. The original Honda carb is in ultrasonic cleaner and when it gets done I will enlarge its main and the fixed idle jet like you did and I’ll bet it will be so much better.

It worked! Thank you. The studs helped for sure. My most inner gasket was partially torn but I pieced it back together. Would have been better to replace I’m sure. This mower does a ton of leaf shredding for compost so needed a tune up. Wasn’t surging as bad as yours but bugged me!

When o took mine to bits the outer gasket had been slightly bent over causing the choke not to open properly, and I could see why -- it's such a pain getting the spacer and two gaskets lined up. I made up long studs, replacing the bolts completely. You were much more efficient. Will save and consult next time. Thanks. Subbed. 👍

Great video, and as everyone knows, iced coffee always makes everything go more smoothly. Here are a few comments and tips I'd like to add for the benefit of your viewers. First, that jet that you mention at 13:00 is called the pilot jet, also sometimes referred to as the idle jet. Ninety-nine percent of the time, that jet is the cause of surging on small engines. The size of the hole, (the orifice) in that pilot jet on many carburetors is around .013 (thirteen thousandths of an inch). To put that into perspective for the uniformed, that just a tad more than 4 times the thickness of a human hair which is about .003, or three thousandths of an inch in diameter, and is also about equal to a standard sheet of paper, (also .003 thick). Some pilot jet holes run a little bigger at .015 to .020 in diameter, and that screw above with the spring is the idle screw. To be safe, a good way to set the idle screw back where it was is to look at a mark or make a mark on the top of your screwdriver handle before turning it. Then gently screw it in all the way until it stops, counting the number of turns as you go. DO NOT FORCE IT WHEN IT STOPS. Mark the number of turns down, and when you go to put it back in, screw it in until it stops, put that mark on your screwdriver handle on top, and then back the screw out, counting the turns as you go, stopping at the correct count. For those very small drills, great for cleaning jets, go to eBay and type in, "Gyros #61 to 80 HSS drills" in the search bar. Then do a search for "Pin vises" needed to hold those small drills. Gyros also makes the pin vises. The #80 drill is the .0135 diameter drill I mentioned earlier, and the #61 measures .039 in diameter. Finally, one more tip for the uniformed; when buying tools, the letters HSS stands for High-Speed Steel and is the only metal/material you want when buying tools like, hex key wrenches, (commonly called Allen wrenches, which is a brand name), drill bits, easy outs, taps and dies, and many other kinds of tools. DON'T EVER buy carbon steel tools of any kind; if you do it would be much quicker to just throw your money out the window! Again, good video.

It’s the emulsion tub holes I bet , blow it out with air . Find it’s a big help

When the main jet is having trouble coming, go into the carb throat bypass the choke butterfly and push the emulsion tube down and out for cleaning.
