  Cults are not just organizations....my dad, a presbyterian minister, created a cult atmosphere in our home. &nbsp;With a narcissistic mother to boot! &nbsp;I am 73 and have complex PTSD and I still deal with triggers. &nbsp;Although less so because I have done the work!!!! &nbsp;I am a critical thinker and have a better inner life. &nbsp;Ty for your videos. &nbsp;I really appreciate your information on NLP my therapist used it in the 80s on me but not for very long. So I&apos;m grateful to have this piece of information going forward and I can teach other people to be wary.

  In a documentary about Jonestown, one survivor made a great point: <br>Nobody joins a cult. They join a church, a political group, a social club, etc.- as in, nobody goes in with the awareness that something is or will become a cult.

  This is such an interesting angle, to talk about the temperament of those especially vulnerable to manipulation. I find this to be very true. When you are an honest person who deals honestly with others, you project that on to people who manipulate you too. It&apos;s easy to confuse and distress an honest heart, because they cannot conceive of doing it to you.

  Dr.Hassan can you maybe do a study on the personal growth/coaching industry, which can be VERY cultlike and uses techniques like NLP and persuasion and manipulation to get people into programs that revolve around one person?

  When cognitive dissonance sets in, do we surrender our internal conflict to a natural inclination to trust, and not realize what we are actually giving up? &nbsp;Is it part of societal heirarchy structures that leave us perceived powerless, that it&apos;s just easier to give in, go with the flow then face all of the difficulties in freeing ourselves, even though we know that we may be wrong and things can&apos;t end well?<br><br>Do we ultimately create a sunk-cost of lost morality, lost perfection that is too difficult to face alone as if nothing exists outside of the trauma bond, else one must start life again, stand alone with almost nothing after leaving the fantastic delusions, delusions that give one social connections and ego importance, friendship, no matter how debilitating?<br><br>Maybe I understand cult dynamics better than I thought and was just looking at it through the wrong lens. &nbsp;I eventually tried to choose health and responsibility over the unhealthy fantastic. &nbsp;Not everyone did.<br><br>It took me decades to recover, a struggle few understood or appreciated, a trauma, sidelined life eventually dedicated to recovery, health, feeling and learning but a difficult road to take broken and emotionally alone.<br><br>It was difficult, overwhelming, cumulative social-environmental factors and social abandonment, perhaps little different from leaving a cult or cPTSD,, totally subjective and almost unintelligible to me and seemingly also to them to whom I turned to for help back then.<br><br>Substituting one crutch for another, always avoiding a truth I would eventually have to face.<br><br>Someone told me once that needing people wasn&apos;t a bad thing. &nbsp;In my case it was myself I had to regain even as I was losing me. &nbsp;It&apos;s a hard stop that I often reach and must slowly back away from. &nbsp;Few ever understood except through blame; nonetheless.
