It looks more like a marketing video than a proper analysis of what the title suggest

Just watched yr video, Colin! I liked it, but was hoping to hear more about the topic vs, a review of all the latest car models from The Car Expo. Nevertheless, you did summarise it all up at the end. But yes, i think you shd do a separate video on after sales service which as your rightly said, could make or break a car brand in the long term.

My 1st entry level car (Daihatsu Sirion) in 2007 was ~$50k, 2nd car (Nissan Note) in 2017 was ~$80k. Now even an entry level is simply unaffordable at over $160k.

Cars in Singapore are just like HDBs. With limited supply, and a growing + richer population, it's hard to imagine COE not increasinging in price tbh.

Singapore is literally the only country in the world where a car can be seen as an asset instead of a liability.

COE is a form of tax and should not be financed by bank loan. Bidders should bid for their COE with cash. Families with 2nd and 3rd car will pay additional 25% and 50% loading on sucessful COE bid price. When these happen, only will COE drop. It is money generating so I don’t think the cash cow will be slaughtered.

I honestly thought we are gonna talk about income proportions of car buyers based on title.

Younger Singaporeans may not have known that cars prices first started surging in the 1970's due to a world wide oil crises, govt mandating that older cars be taken off the road for excessive pollution, and the govt's desire to reduce car sales when land for road building is limited. Various measures were introduced over the decades to make car ownership progessively more expensive, which also resulted in greatly increased revenue for govt coffers. It's hard to stop the revenue addiction and people were conditioned to accept high taxes and fees as a way of life. With EVs, previous excuses (oil crises and pollution) no longer exist yet the govt cannot explain why it continues to keep car ownership so ridiculously expensive. One has to assume they ensure that ministers continue to collect jackpot size salaries and bonuses. Singaporeans are having their pockets picked without realising what's happening.

While BYD is a great daily commuter car, its growing ubiquity has made it feel somewhat like a uniform on Singapore roads. For those who value individuality, it may be less exciting, and I believe many Singaporeans will gradually seek alternative brands to stand out from the crowd.

I think an episode on car service/repair experience by owners will be very useful. Particularly for newer players like BYD. I’ve owned a few cars and in my mind there are brands I’d avoid just because me and a fellow owners has had bad experiences. Imagine dropping $200k and more on a car only to find AD workshop is not up to par.

One of the multi-layered taxes that make Singapore actually a highly taxed society. When people say Singapore is rich, it actually means the government of Singapore is very rich. Most Singaporeans are asset-rich although cash-poor.
