  “Rob Parsons for Tasmanian Parliament”, that pick head is of the style of the ‘Ballarat Pick’. Designed in Ballarat for hard rock mining. The pointy pick heads came in many styles, (pick point, chisel, blade etc). In the low Ballarat mines, a double headed Cornish Pick was dangerous to the miner on the back swing. The Ballarat blacksmiths designed a single point with a hammer on the other side. The hammer was designed to smash hard quartz reefs. The pick point was great to bite into softer rock and lever it out). These pick heads were made by blacksmiths and supplied without handles. The buyer would grab (cut) a piece of wattle or Blackwood (usually) and they would sit around camp at night whittling the wood into the shape they required. It’s nice to see the design has made its way to an isolated area of Tasmania. I hope this helps.
