Heads up: the audio drops out for 10 seconds at 21:32. Unintentional, likely caused by a slip of the mouse just before exporting. But, given the theme of the video, consider it a moment of silence for the departed.

Nobody knows who has not tried it how difficult the first, second and last movements are. What beauty Mr. Ohlsson gets from his instrument. Truly inspiring.

Craziest place I've hear this piece was on Santiago de Chile's airport, in the boarding gates waiting zone. I love aviation and classical music, but hearing the marche funebre motif and boarding a plane doesn't mix well 😂

I’ve been thoroughly enjoying listening/watching this podcast this past year. I’m one year into my physics undergrad (age 19), but I also love piano, and this series has been really informative. I’m a little sad that there’s only couple episodes left, but I look forward to whatever else you do next!

Chopin's 2nd Sonata is not an easy one to fall in love with just because of how grotesquely contrasting to one another its four movements are.

As for whether take the alternative part and repeat from Grave rather than Doppio Movimento, 30:58 and specifically the material of the LH in bar 106 is what indicates that the preceding repeat starting from Doppio Movimento and not Grave is intentional. Harmonically, including Grave in the repeat works indeed very well, and Avdeeva does that in her performance of this Sonata quoted in the opening chapter of this video.

This was played for the funeral procession of Atatürk in 1938, the founder of modern secular Turkey

I think the emotionality of sorrow in death is transcendental ; reflecting the sadness of one's passing and the joys of one's physical memory. It's sort of what I hear in the minor and major key signature switches
