  I understand Camilla’s jewelry choices for this diplomatic trip because it is not a time economically to bring out “the big guns” jewelry with the tiaras. Wearing over the top royal jewels when the soft power jewels were more appropriate is more relatable to the common people who are suffering during the worldwide economic crisis.

  Amethyst , aquamarine and black opal are my favorite gemstones so seeing this diadem was just so fantastic.

  I think it wouldn’t have been appropriate for the Queen to have worn a tiara on a state visit to the U.S., regardless of past norms. I don’t think it’s wise to wear the symbol of monarchy in a country that fought a war to break from your very monarchy. And even if that weren’t the case, when the hostess wears no tiara, especially to make a point of not being a monarch (which is why First Ladies don’t wear them), think it’s appropriate to follow her example.
