  it’s unfortunate how much sinophobia there can be in the western world these days and how little people actually know about chinese culture, a culture that has influenced so much of east and southeast asia and comes from a country where almost 1/5 of the world’s population lives. i was afraid this video, like so much of the internet, would reduce chinese culture to a meme, but i trusted gloom’s content so i clicked.<br><br>i was pleasantly surprised to see that you actually brought in a chinese friend who knows real chinese stuff and genuinely tried to interact with the community and culture instead of just doing a bit. granted, not every chinese person i know lives the way mimi shows in the video (some of those practices are more common among older generations) and there are definitely some funny bits played up for the video. but chinese culture also varies immensely across china, so i still found this really informative. thank you for blessing us with this video that you clearly put so much time and effort into, and thank you to mimi for being so patient and funny throughout the whole thing.<br><br>i know for some people this video might still just be a “haha she’s in a very chinese time of her life” kind of thing, but consider this: ever since i was a kid, i’ve been fascinated by different cultures around the world, and i’ve always loved reading about them beyond the surface level. it’s always fun and inspiring to discover how differently people can live and see the world. if you found anything in this video funny, weird, or completely unfamiliar (like century eggs, acupuncture, or longevity tea) i really encourage you to dig a little deeper and learn more about it. maybe hop on rednote or bilibili and get a glimpse into a whole world that’s completely different from the western internet. chinese culture has so much depth and complexity that even someone who grew up with it could never fully grasp all of it, and imo there are a lot of things we can take inspiration from in our fast paced modern world (whether that’s slowing down a little, spending more time in nature, or simply approaching certain parts of life differently). every culture is beautiful and deserves to be appreciated, and making an effort to genuinely learn about each other is always a good first step toward fighting stereotypes and racism. i really appreciate what gloom and mimi are doing here. this was such an amazing watch!
