Edit 2: 47K views in and I've finally decided to monetize the video and add some tags to it. Not sure why I treat monetization the way I do, but hopefully it means something to someone.

Edit: I'll keep it up, but I wont bother monetizing it. (Which I'm already regretting.) Also I didn't bother adding any tags to push it to people either. I'll once again mention Keebler Elf's critique of the game as the superior one. While I've wanted to tackle these topics from the start, his critique definitely had a large influence on the way I phrased a lot of segments that ends up making the video rather derivative. So if given the option between watching my review or reading his, I'd recommend reading it.

I feel sorta negatively about this video, and honestly might just keep it in a playlist as unlisted depending on the sentiment towards it.
I tried to be as comprehensive as possible, and strive for near perfection, but I absolutely wasn't able to achieve it, and generally the video just has a tone that isn't as fun as I want to be. I definitely wish I had more time to work on it, even though I've basically spent the last year prepping. Going off of caffeine didn't help either.
I was close to giving up on the project entirely multiple times just because I wasn't enjoying the process, and while I think it was a good learning experience, I'm not sure sticking with it was the best idea.
The thumbnail was a funny idea though, even if I slapped it together in an hour.

My typical additions (These aren't common complaints, it's just stuff that bothers me when rewatching the video):

0:35 My friend really hates Helluva Boss

4:21 In retrospect I probably would've rephrased this to be, "If it was a genuine threat from her," since an on the spot decision is a bit much. I love the idea of it being a real threat from her, but it's unlikely she was actually on the verge of fully going through with it at that moment. While fighting Lancer I think it's more debatable.
I don't think I'll ever be able to word these reoccurring Susie sections as well as I'd like to, and I'm definitely biased when it comes to her character.
While I'm not a fan of the "be the monster they see me as" direction she went in as a character, as her portrayal in Chapter 1 left her more morally ambiguous in an evolution on Undertale's simplistic morality.
I still think if the writing stuck to Chapter 1's quality, similarly to how Paper Trail handled it, it would've been acceptable. (Also as I mention, the new face sprites don't help with the perception of her.)
After checking out the Overswung series, I think it's an alright example of how it could've been done better. Typically I'd critique how she stops and explains her entire mentality to Kris, but she does the same thing in ch3, just worse.
I've seen a lot of incredible analyses of the inherent issues with Susie's characterization in the comments, even since my first video on Deltarune, but unfortunately it's just not my forte.

I forgot about the scene in Ralsei's room since it's entirely optional, and mostly used for jokes, so none of it really stuck. Granted it does manage to be funny, but still, it interrupts an important moment for him. It creates a link between what he said in chapter 2 and chapter 3, except for some reason it's in chapter 4, and once again it's a hidden scene mostly played off for laughs.

I still stand by what I said about these character arcs not serving an important purpose in the narrative, and not creating any real conflict to the extent they did in Chapter 1.
Susie's healing arc is given a very weak purpose through Jackenstein, and Ralsei's identity crisis and hiding of information has yet to be given more than just acknowledgement through dialogue, hence why it feels like filler.
In comparison Susie's behavior in Chapter 1 lead to her joining Lancer's side, Kris and Ralsei having a combat encounter against her, and an emotional fight between her and Lancer. Ralsei's naivety resulted in him falling for the King's ruse.

I feel like I didn't word the conclusion to the zelda minigame section very well.
Even if everything shown in the minigame does end up being foreshadowing for future events, the time it takes, and the repetition of its gameplay doesn't justify itself unless you're a die hard theorist deeply invested in the game's lore.

Lancer's theme and the card castle theme, as well as chapter 4's battle theme and the titan spawn theme are the same lightmotifs. An embarrassing oversight on my part, but they're handled very distinctly in a way that's clever to realize, which is how I believe lightmotifs should be handled.

59:01 I should've gone into more detail on these instead of leaving it in annotations.
Despite "Lost Girl" being a remix of Noelle's theme, it was used later for Susie's flashback and it only enhances how comically awkward the presentation of her backstory is. I know it was mentioned that it wouldn't only be Noelle's theme, but it's still a lazy reuse of music that the previous chapters and Undertale never stooped down to.
The songs "confession," "race," "newscast," and "It's Raining Somewhere Else," are reused from Undertale which is both incredibly distracting, and disappointing when one of Deltarune's biggest appeals is its original soundtrack.
I should've given the awkward reuse of "flashback excerpt" more emphasis as well, because it's such a fascinatingly poor choice. An incredibly fitting, unsettling song was made for a scene where Noelle grapples with her actions in the dark world, and it was reused for a short, benign scene where you discuss clues with Susie.

1:42:41 The rose was more subtle because it was small, unimposing at a first glance ignoring the underlying implications, and calm in stark contrast to the previous tone.
The shatter is big, abrupt, and generally "louder" visually. It's shocking on a surface level, even without the underlying implications. That's why it's weaker. It's an insulting, dumbed down visual.

2:03:33 Creating a dark fountain in the light world wouldn't create a titan from what's observable in game, but it still doesn't seem ideal to form a fountain when the entirety of each chapter is spent trying to seal them all.

I worded the Dave section abysmally, which sucks because I actually respect the early acts of Homestuck, and wish I could've done them more justice. I blame the crunch I was doing to get the video out before Ch5.
Through the absurdity, Homestuck manages to capture the charm of a bunch of friends working together to beat a video game online.
Dave was authentically written to be the cool one. He had an ironic sense of humor that was representative of the era. There are people like Dave, that's why he works so well in the comic.
His relationship with his brother, while a step up in absurdity from the other kid's guardians, was still tonally consistent, and never directly portrayed as abusive. They appear to have mutual respect for each other, especially when Bro leaves Dave his copy of Sburb.
Karkat and Dave are polar opposites, one is angry and overreactive, the other is nonchalant. They are entirely incompatible and that's where the comedy stemmed from.

This is all to say that this was all recontextualized through dialogue in Act 6. His relationship with his brother was made to have actually been abusive the whole time, and he just didn't see it before. Then in the sequel he's in love with Karkat, therefore meaning he was actually gay the whole time. Therefore meaning he was masking his insecurities about it behind his ironic sense of humor.
All of these things are the polar opposite of how he was originally portrayed, but because it was never explicitly denied in the comic beforehand, the fandom eagerly went along with it.
This is not to imply Dave had no problems beforehand, but that homosexuality and abuse weren't them.

I'm sure this all sounds insane to anyone who hasn't read the comic, but the early acts are shockingly straightforward and enjoyable.

I could've been far more clear with Gerson and how the meaning of freedom has changed. again.
Deltarune starting with chapter 4 has become, "Breaking the Prophecy the Video Game," alongside "Finding Dess the Video Game."
Where originally the theme of freedom appeared as if it was just meant to parallel Deltarune's lack of player choice and singular ending in stark contrast to Undertale. Now it has become the subversive throughline the main plot revolves itself around.
The main cast of Deltarune has been made to revolve around the prophecy. Ralsei's knowledge of the prophecy and world becomes his main defining trait, and Susie's identity in Deltarune is now tied to her role in the prophecy and wanting to break it.
I did not mind the idea of there only being one ending, but unfortunately it seems the game will actually have multiple endings in some fashion, and the game has made that its entire identity moving forward.
This is what I meant by the theme of freedom being different, though I really should've phrased it better. again.

As an addendum to the rant about Deltarune's file size, if Deltarune was the same price as Undertale, then I wouldn't be as picky about how big it is, but it's a pixel art game that's 10$ more than Hollow Knight.
I don't believe it's a harmless issue either, since the audio quality of the music is heavily compressed to compensate.
If Deltarune's large size purely came from its music, I wouldn't complain since there would be a noticeable quality improvement. (It'd be based if Deltarune started using FLACs.)
But instead Deltarune's size mostly stems from either incompetence or laziness.

Also at 32:00 I say "Chapter 3" instead of "Chapter 2," and at 1:58:11 I say "Chapter 2" instead of "Chapter 1."
Wow, talk about embarrasing.

Also I know Seam's name is pronounced "Shawm," but I chose to say "Seam" due to it being more recognizable.

I find it really funny how some people think Toby is incapable of putting sensitive content in his games while Undertale has child suicide, Almagamates, Mettaton creating a dictatorship and Asgore killing himself on screen.

I can't wait to see how this dude will react at the random Ralsei fire attack at a random shuriken instead of Titan who is supposed to be able to bring the end of the world

Go off king. I honestly didn't think anyone would be making videos like this until Deltarune was completed and forgotten about 5 years after the final chapter or something, but you jumped into the lion's den and listed I think every complaint I've had as well.
