Too bad you couldn’t say this AWx16 R2laptop. I thought you were onto something when you blew it out and the short changed from the corner of the CPU to somewhere else. Liquid metal is so insidious. Alex at NF is really bad at dealing with it and he had a board that was showing liquid metal under lots of chips. He was using tweezers and a Q-tip with alcohol to try to clean it out and that was it. He gave up on the motherboard, but the bottom of his foot was itching and he took his sock off, and there was liquid metal in his sock. That’s just evil😂

46:28 - and this is why some peripherals now include thermal paste templates (they're common for some brands of AIOs, for repasting the CPU - Lian Li for example)

I have been watching Nate’s videos for about six weeks, and in that time it appears that more than half of his repairs involve Alienware laptops. I have encountered liquid metal only once, and upon seeing what I call the “Devil’s Liquid,” I immediately stopped working on the device. On Sunday, I had time to watch only the first repair, and it remains unclear how many times the laptop’s owner had opened it. I suspect a loose ball of liquid metal caused the CPU failure, as its unpredictable movement—much like a pinball—could have allowed it to escape the case during one of those openings. Manufacturers of liquid-metal devices should place clear warnings on the back of the device.

Another concern is inexperienced individuals attempting to open laptops. About a month ago, I purchased a broken HP 14FQ series laptop on eBay for parts; the damage was caused by someone unaware that screws were hidden beneath the rubber strips on the bottom.

Nate comes across as a courteous and diplomatic professional on this topic. Hopefully, the laptop’s owner has learned an expensive but valuable lesson.
