A friend who was born in "Leningrad" told me a few weeks ago that "in Russia, the past is always heroic, the future is always glorious, and the present is always difficult."

In Clancy's defense, he needed a strong Soviet Union to tell a good story. The US also hyped up the strength of the Soviet Union. But if you read his second novel, Red Storm Rising, you do get some of the strong Soviet Union stuff, but you also get a lot of what you are seeing in Ukraine and the corruption in the system. So, some propaganda is pushed on via storytellers simply because it benefits the story.

The part about about Africa hits so close to home. I’m Namibian, and I was shocked to see the extent of how Russian disinformation and propaganda has permeated throughout almost every group that’s even a little bit politically minded here. I have friends and colleagues that outright hate Ukraine and most Western nations, and think the Russian invasion is justified

The first CoD timeline requires that all Soviet equipment is still usable and the Russian Infantry ALL underwent the Ratnik program to update their individual armor, helmet, and radios. They did not. Russian ground forces are stuck somewhere between the US's 1993 invasion of Iraq and French post-colonial security forces.

Speaking of Tom Clancy, it nice to see that Ukraine has just launched its own version of Red Storm Rising's Operation Doolittle.
