I went to a plastic surgeon decades ago and found all the office staff and nurses had the exact same nose. I walked out of there loving my natural nose!

That reminds me of the Kardashians. They all looked different at one time, but now they all look the same. And everyone else wants to look the same…Just like them. Gross! Be who you are

Bruh Sulli too. I just looked into it, she passed a month after her best friend Goo Hara (another kpop idol) died of suicide too. This is more then just a beauty standard story, this is a story of how extreme patriarchal structures puts intense pressure on woman. Goo Hara was being blackmailed by a past bf, who threatened to leak intimate images and videos he'd secretly recorded. In Korea men who commit crimes against woman barely get a slap on the wrist, there are so many examples of this. The beauty standard is just a flow on affect of the cultural norms towards women

Its great that you are pointing out that this is a world wide thing. Its really abusive, whether its in Korea or Disney/nickelodeon or if youre a figure skater/gymnast in Russia or the US. And its young pliable girls who are asked to conform to some standard set by creepy adults.

Whenever I get insecure about a feature, I start volunteering in homeless shelters so I can remember there are bigger problems in life, and my worries only exist because of the bubble I am in. I used to model, so I think a lot of this stuff is nonsense I got from that job. I really want to get some procedures when I age and might need them to help maintain my young looks for longer, but I want to look like myself and not too far off from my real age. What's the point anyway? I am against extreme transformations of any kind; I think it promotes mental illness. I think it is important to look as close to your natural features as possible to prevent low self-esteem and mental issues. I think correcting a couple of things is ok, but looking nothing like yourself is nothing but a sign of low self-esteem, honestly.

I wish people's natural features were appreciated a lot more as diversity is a lot more beautiful.

I have been a k-pop fan since 2000s, I can confirm that it is getting worse every year. In the past, they did only nose job and eyelid. I go back to see old clips from time to time, girls we found skinny would be “fat” for k-pop these days.

I just watched The Ugly Stepsister. It was REALLY good, and had many beautiful shots. But the body horror?? NEXT LEVEL. It showed the disgusting , uncensored reality of the brutal meadurea girls will "choose themselves", if they're shamed for the way they are, and praised only once they start to fit into the current beauty standard. I honestly think everyone should be required to watch surgery videos, and read death and disfigurement stats, before they're allowed to choose surgery. I wish the WHO or something could make it illegal, or extremely difficult, for ANY company to add starvation and surgery as part of the "job!!"😊

The ”elf ear surgery” videos were in Chinese, not Korean. Chinese plastic surgery is it’s own monster tbh…

It's not just a Kpop industry thing (or maybe it is). People in S.Korea need to attach their picture with their resume when they are looking for a job. Since many of the people share similar education, the thing is what can they do to stand out? That's also one of the reasons people there get surgery. I think also the society overall are pretty ok with it. High schoolers get double eyelid surgery or rhinoplasty as their graduation present. There were a few stories about S.Koreans going into debt just so they can look a certain way and feel happy. Not to mention, bullying in S.Korean high schools are pretty bad. You can imagine what that all culminates into a society where being pretty is a must. Also there is a credit card crisis in S.Korea because people go into debt not just to look a certain way but to be dressed a certain way i.e. wearing name brands like Gucci, LV, Chanel, YSL etc. Which is why the movie Parasite is so relevant.
