Hello fellow modellers. I have different plans for this year, and one change is to return to more tutorials that focus on a range of approaches and techniques in greater depth. It will be in three different classes. Beginner, Advanced, and Expert. I alrady have a few ideas for the first tutorial session, but it would be lovly to hear from you waht you would like to see. 🤔

Something I discovered recently thanks to a random google search is making a 50/50 mix of PVA glue and dishwashing liquid and use it as liquid mask : it's easier to apply than ready-made liquid masks AND it doesn't attack paint. 100% recommend.

It is funny, but to me who is 53 almost all of those tricks and materials are just a blast from my past in the '80s. Either because there were no hobby shops around, either because back then companies hadn't yet produce something that we needed for the hobby. Home-made Decal Softener with 50-50 distilled water - vinegar for set and 50-50 distilled water - Isopropyl Alcohol sol for instance. Going modelling shopping definitely included a stop to the Hardware Shop: Sandpapers, sanding sponges, acetone, white spirit, plaster of Paris, masking tape, clippers, PVA, Cyanoacrylate, Epoxy (Araldite) and so on.... I still believe in them, and I am not a nostalgic for my childhood middle aged man, I still believe that my money should be spend wisely. Not buying the latest MiG novelty for 7.99. Eastern Front Earth? Really, you can't make yourself a pigment?

My grandma knew in the early days, when she said, „you don’t know for how many tasks you may need it“. Thanks grandma! And thanks Plasmo of course too how to use it 🤘🏼

I started using floor polish (Quick Shine Multi Surface) for sealing my models before decals and weathering. It's $10usd for 27oz. I just spray it through my airbrush from the bottle. Clean up with IPA and good to go. Dries really fast and one coat will leave you with a satin finish. The more coats the more gloss your finish will be.

I've used acetone to clean my airbrush.
I've since learned why that's a bad idea to use it for every part, you can still use it on the solid metal parts. Just keep away from the rings and gaskets.

Another great household product for modelling : cheap melamine sponges.
You can use them to clean your model, to polish painted or varnished surfaces, to clean your sanding files or airbrush needles by making them go through one, as bases to support your parts while airbrushing, or you can cut them to plug the openings (cockpit, landing bay...) before painting!

Lighter fluid as a thinner for oil paints is exactly what I needed. Thank you! Also, i was already using hairspray (as a bald man, i get weird looks when buying one) and vinegar as decal softener.

Great tutorial,keep them coming please.
Over 50 years ago I used Colgate toothpaste on a 1/12 F1 Ferrari using Humbrol paints and a brush, and it was a great success,I’m still modeling today or trying to finish the perfect model.

Many of these are familiar to those of us that were modelling in late 1980s and I recall using toothpaste to polish red acrylic paint to a high shine on a Tamiya F1 Ferrari in '89.
