For anybody who’s worried about the soft box, don’t worry. Shine the light at a white wall, and that’ll soften it more than enough. Get the light, worry about modifiers later.

Great video! I’m upgrading to the 18 Pro Max next week and going to get back into photography/videography. I worked as a photographer on staff at a couple car magazines until about 7 years ago and really miss the creative outlet that my work used to give me, so starting next week I’ll be “hitting the gym” and exercising some creative muscles that I haven’t flexed in a long time. Definitely glad I found your channel!

I just discovered that one of the best iphone accessories… is an iphone! Using a hotspot, you can ise a 2nd iphone as a controller and monitor with the Blackmagic app. You can focus, live view (some lag, not terrible), and control literally everything. It appears that you can also use your monitor phone as a 2nd cam. Craziness. This doesn’t require an ethernet adapter or a router. Just the 2 phones.

    Great video!
Anyway, I would recommend to everyone (regardless of camera): DO NOT use any variable ND filters. These will completely ruin your colors when panning - especially nice blue skies will experience a significant color saturation and density shift during the panning.
This is because of the angle between the camera and the light-reflecting sky changes, leading to a different polarization angle of the light that hits the filter.
Instead (and, that's why I like your video so much): ignore the 180-degree shutter rule and add motion blur in post - always works perfetly.

Since this video was made, the iPhone 7 and 17 pro have come out. The 17 pro again has three lenses, but these are all the same resolution at 48MP, so lens is less important.

Excellent vid. Clear info, no BS, saved the pitch for last which is good because it doesn’t distract from main topic.
