  The director originally wanted Rutger Hauer to play the villain, but he didn&apos;t want to get type cast as only playing villains, since he had played several villains in a row, but he told the director if the lead became available that he would gladly take that role. So, when Kurt Russell (yes, that Kurt Russel) backed out of playing the lead, Rutger Hauer got a phone call.

  Rutger Hauer is so great in this film! He brings the right intensity to his performance. When he cries out as she flies away from him, I tear up every time.

  I love this movie. I wore out the VHS tape as a kid, rewatching it over and over again. So sad that no one these days seems to remember it

  Dude, an inn with a big, roaring fire, serving fresh bread, meats &amp; cheeses, with ale, plus a bard playing music &amp; telling stories sounds like absolute heaven to me!
