Seles had Hingis in a vice this match and simply didn't let her go. Incredible all out attack from Seles.

As others say, one of the best matches Monica played in her second career. It was even more impressive knowing that Hingis had a 5-0 lead vs Seles before the match (despite two super close matches on clay in 1997). <br><br>Also best quality of this match I’ve seen since watching it live in 1998. I still can’t stomach that Monica lost the final though…

Monica looked so trim and in good shape. She managed to carry this form into the Canadian open defeating Hingis for the second time in a row. But when the US open came around she had gained back some of the weight. She really could been a force to reckon with had she kept a strict regimen.

Most likely one of her 3 best matches at the French Open in Monica Seles' entire career. She also played very well vs Jennifer Capriati in the quarters of Paris GS of 1992, top!<br><br>If one counts the many many winners MS played in set 1, then you'd expect the score to be 6:1 in her favor, just gets to show how good Martina Hingis was at the time, nice [I saw her live in Filderstadt Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, very smart player indeed]🎾

One of the best performances from post-stabbed Monica. <br>1998 FO was still the most memorable tournament for me. Monica beat Jana and Martina, both of whom were her nemesis back then, but lost in the final to Arantxa, who she had lopsided H2H against.
