  To be honest most liminal spaces actually give me a strange sense of comfort and familiarity. Kinda feels like stepping into a hazy memory from a previous life

  There&apos;s a word that&apos;s very applicable to all of this: &quot;kenopsia.&quot; It&apos;s a forlorn melancholy you feel when in a space that&apos;s meant to be, and supposed to be, bustling with people.<br><br>Personally, I love those spaces. They feel peaceful to an introvert like me.

  I saw another video essay discussing the idea of liminal spaces, and it speaks of “hauntology” and the effects of capitalism long after its collective dreams are gone. <br><br>In a way, just like this video, it points to a fear of not only being left behind in a personal sense but also in a cultural, economic and philosophical sense.

  nostalgia is def a factor for me. but im one of those people who prefers the backrooms have no monsters and youre just alone and lost, because i was isolated for a few years and thats kinda how it feels. slowly going insane and being paranoid because its been so long since youve been a part of society. terrified to return even though its all you want, because youre a stranger to it now. nothing makes sense but this is your life, so its all you have.

  I&apos;m older GenZ (97). I&apos;ve always like liminal spaces, but I didn&apos;t know that term until Backrooms became popular during covid. My love for liminal spaces was also skyrocketed by covid because I work in healthcare and during 2020, there was a period of time where I was forced to work even though we had very few patients. I have vivid memories of wandering around the almost completely empty hospital and other medical buildings accompanied only by the buzz of lights and the pumping fans of the air conditioning.
