  What distinguishes Dantès from most other avengers is that he doesn&apos;t lead the victims of his vengeance straight to inevitable doom, but rather gives each of them a choice—it&apos;s their own choices that cause them to walk into prepared traps they could have avoided had they made the right moral decision at the right moment. He merely gives them the rope with which the victims hang themselves.

  Each time I learn of another individual discovering The Count of Monte Cristo for the first time feels like lighting another candle to increase the amount of light in the world to keep the darkness at bay.<br>Well done!

  The gigantic length of The Count of Monte Cristo has one massive advantage for the storytelling - when we hit the part where he is free and goes to such vast lengths to extravagantly award anyone who ever showed him the slightest kindness, the line &quot;I have substituted myself for Providence in rewarding the good; may the God of vengeance now yield me His place to punish the wicked&quot; is terrifying.
