Always enjoy the banter between the two of you!

An interesting study on the importance of the turntable belt. I neglected mine for years, until the point where I thought the days for my Pro- Ject table were numbered. I thought maybe the belt was the culprit, and being a relatively inexpensive item I replaced the belt and I was amazed at the impact the belt had. A great reminder for us all.

Cheers from Canada!

Can confirm that removing the dust cover does make a difference -- especially if you have a cat who enjoys sitting on the top of it, and thus affecting your careful calibration and levelling efforts.

Sounds like a bargain to me, an LP12/Axis belt is £56! but is allegedly made by unicorns and mermaids in a secret mountain on the edge of time.

"It absorbs more light from the room." That was never a phrase I used when demming and selling Regas at Aylesbury HiFi 🙂

Removing the cover while playing made a huge difference for me. I think the cover acts like a microphone and transfers a lot of vibration into the plinth.

Well, this has inspired me to clean the belt path on my old Planar 2. You wouldn't believe how much crud came off it, I could have been growing beans in it. I have also ordered a new belt on the basis that more than half that crud must have been part of the old belt. Thank you!!

I had a Michel stylus pressure gauge back in the late 70’s / early 80’s. It was a four inch spirit level with a platform for the stylus to rest on and a set of individual calibrated weights. You got the exact tracking force but ultimately it was best to tweak the force slightly either way and listen for ultimate results!

How pissed was Mike during the making of this video. Very amusing and miraculously informative

Bought a new reference belt for my P3 instantly mixed it up with my old belt so decided that the mat black and very smooth one was the reference belt and installed. Thinking now this is snake oil but low and behold during listening realised that you two rascals are spot on a definable improvement. However your choice of beer certainly needs improving.
