This is so true. Six or seven years ago, I bought two pineapples at the grand opening of warehouse store for 99 cents. I planted those crowns and subsequent shoots, an now have well over TWO HUNDRED plants. We have pineapple year round and give many away.

Somebody planted pineapples all up and down the ally behind my house. Not going to compete with Dole or anything - but it’s an entertaining little “garden” on my walk every day.

This video is just what I needed. Two years ago I popped 3 pineapple crowns in the ground, similar to your instructions. Nothing happened. Someone suggested that my red clay soil was too compacted, so the pineapple wouldn’t fruit. So after two years of zero growth , I transplanted the crowns in a raised garden bed with fluffy bagged potting soil. Within a week there were signs of rejuvenation, and 4 months later they are slightly larger than your pineapple crowns in this video. I am hoping they will eventually fruit—soon. Looking forward to your next pineapple 🍍 video.

I am getting my second home grown pineapple off of a store bought pineapple top I put in a pot 3 years ago! Got three plants that were all pups of the original. 🎉
I just cut off the top with a knife and left a bunch of the original fruit on it, and it seemed to do ok.

The only problem is that these are acid pineapples. Go to your local Rare Earth nursery and buy a Sugarloaf pineapple plant. The difference in taste is like night and day.

Missed this when it came out. I'm at 6 plants from a pineapple plant that someone drove up from FL for me. I gifted one of them to someone who was super excited to get it.

I’ve got a top saved from last weeks birthday party so I’m fixing to go plant it and see what happens!

I’m growing mine in pots in south facing windows. I doubt they would survive our winters. They live inside all year. It took my first crown at least 4 years, I think, to start growing a pineapple, but its wingspan was a approaching 5ft across after 2-3 years which made accessing the windowshade problematic….and walking by it without getting stabbed. I had to stuff it into a tomato cage and sit that inside its 5 gallon bucket. I expected the plant to die after it gave its pineapple, so I waited for pups. They never showed up and the plant kept living. 7-8 years in and it’s now growing its 2nd pineapple! I took the crown of it’s first and planted it and now it needs its own tomato cage. I need more window room!

Hi!
Nice video.
I have some tips for ya...
You can actually cut the crown and make more than one plant. I've cut them up to 4 pieces. The good thing about that ( besides more pineapples 😂) is the cut plants seem to send up a few pups pretty quickly.
Also, I've seen videos where people put a slice of apple into the middle of the pineapple and within 6-8 weeks a flower stalk will grow. I think it's something about the gas apples release.
I have a couple of crowns I never got around to putting in soil from last summer and they're still alive 😂
I also potted one up this month from a baby shower for my granddaughter. We had made a fruit platter. My son and I call it the Millie Pineapple. Can you guess what my grandbaby will be named?😊
I'm in Texas, too😊

I have one that is going on 12 years old and has made several pineapples over the years. I've got a few more that I started from those fruits.

I grow pineapples in Texas also. None of my pineapple plants have fruited. I recommend leaving the top to dry and heal on the counter for a couple of days prior to planting. That way, it won't rot. I will also add that they need to be brought indoors during the winter.
