The downfall of Joanne has more to do with private equity than the downfall of sewing.

This one still hurts. Joann’s was my go to for all things yarn and they had the best sales.

I miss Joann’s so much! I still sew but won’t buy fabrics online. I have to see and feel it in person!

Wait, so the company was doing fine, with zero debt. Then gets bought by PE who put it into debt, and it eventually closes. An entire business was run into the ground for no particular reason, resulting in staff losing their jobs and customers losing a service they needed? I hate private equity. So much.

Private equity needs to be severely controlled. It’s ruining veterinary practices also. Cost going up snd services going down.

Baby boomer here. I learned to sew from my mother and my step mother. In the 80’s I made most of my clothes. I taught my daughter to sew and bought her a machine. Now at aged 64 I teach sewing for free and provide all the supplies. It has been my greatest joy. I too miss Joann Fabrics. Thank you for the memories. Blessings.

I’m still trying to wrap my head around having no real fabric store any longer. My mother sewed ALL of her clothes and most of mine. My prom dresses, sister’s wedding gown. She then turned all of those scraps into quilts. Hobby Lobby isn’t the same. I’ve seen no fabric at our local Michael’s. Such a shame.

I wish they never closed. I wish they were still there. I miss them.

Late 50s male here. I took home economics in middle school. Made an apron for mom for Mother’s Day. She still has it!
