  With her hands she is letting you know what she is doing with her voice. The fast music is pure classical music notes in different arrangements called “Sargam”. Which is very difficult , and the musicians practices it so often that it becomes muscle memory. She is singing “Raag Bhimpalasi”.

  It takes decades of practice to reach this standard. She started learning when she was a kid... She is one of the finest classical vocalists of India. The ease with which she sings is incredible.

  My brain is so simplistic that this style of music is so foreign. &nbsp;I don&apos;t know if she is saying/singing words or just notes. &nbsp;I&apos;m totally lost. I wish I did understand this style of singing because she is obviously very talented and her vocals are incredible. It seems almost magical. She looks like she&apos;s really enjoying herself.

  Some answers your questions:<br><br>1. Yes, the rhythm cycle is 16 beats - 4 x 4 - called Teental in Hindustani tradition<br>2. Hand and arm movements of the singer are generally for outlining the contour of the melody and the rhythmic iterations and most importantly- the starting point of the rhythmic cycle - Called Saam. Some singers do that a lot some are a bit reserved, But they all signal the Saam. as a reference point.<br>3. Vowels (mostly &quot;aa&quot; sound) are used for quick-fire improvisations and the consonants are generally the Indian seven note Solfège (Sa, Re, Ga, Ma, Pa Dha, Ni). in this performance, the last phrase of the song (lyrics) are repeated before the Saam. It is bit like a repeating riff to come &quot;home&quot; as it were.,<br>4. Syncing of the musicians happens as they do not deviate from the iterations and the larger form of the given rhythmic cycle. The cycle may speed up little in tempo, as in the performance - where the singer signals to slow down a bit to the Tabla player.

  Important to know it was not rehearsed on a sheet. Every time she sings the &quot;same raag&quot; again it will be improvised within the fixed scale of this raag.

  She belongs to the Patiala Gharana. Patiala is a city in North India, and Gharana translates to school or family going back several generations. Her father is also superbly accomplished &nbsp;and has the title of &apos;Pandit&apos; or maestro. There are videos of young Kaushiki practicing and learning from him.
