Spain is underrated. As a "New Worlder" Spain gets tossed in as "that other guy" a lot due to French and Britain throwing jabs at each other but I find the Iberian Wars pretty dang interesting.

Fun fact: León in 1188 contains the oldest known reference to the European parliamentary system to date. These documents, originating in medieval Spain, were drafted within the framework of a royal court held during the reign of Alfonso IX of León (1188–1230). Certified by UNESCO.

I´m spanish and i must make a correction. Rodrigo Diaz de Vivar (Castile), "El Cid", was castilian, not aragonese. That´s a HUGE and strange mistake in the video. And this strguggle was REALLY a crusade: It was oficially considered by the Catholic Church as a “crusade.”

I didn't expect Spanish history here! Great to see it and hope more of it to come in the future. If somebody is interested in this I recomend Flash Point History videos on the topic, Kings and Generals also has some great videos about it and Baz Battles did a fantastic video on the battle of Covadonga.

Hi! thanks for reacting to some spanish history VTH! I'm from Galicia (north of Spain) and i can tell you that this topic is very unknown, as are the viceroyalties in America (Spanish Empire). For some reason i can't understand that part of our own history is not tauth, maybe because is too complex or for political reasons (Spain is a politically divided country and has remain this way because of the civil war that ocurred in the 30's) and there is a ideological fight between the Right and the Left that use history as a tool for their interests and i think that's a shame....The other factor that explains this is the Black Legend promoted in the XVI and XVII centuries by England, France and the recently independent Netherlands that basically exaggerated chapters in history (such as the conquest of Mexico, the sack of Rome or the Inquisition) just to underestimate the achievements of the Hispanic monarchy of that time. But anyway, what can i say, great video!!!, keep up the good work and i hope that in other future occasion you could make another video about Spain and his long and interesting history!

The video has a lot of mistakes. The Cid was born in Burgos and was hired by the King of Aragorn after being expelled from Castile.

15:40 There is a pretty big mistake in the OG video, Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar "El Cid" was not from Aragón, but from Castile
