I don’t agree with you religiously, but I’ve always had huge respect for your channel (probably more than any other channel). Your respect for other people’s opinions is inspiring to me as a young man growing up and interested in getting into debating. Your interest in and time for other views is so refreshing to see. I wholeheartedly support your advocation for calm, respectful conversation.

It's a cool video though he should've talked more about how the Siege of Baghdad by Hulagu was one of the most catastrophic events in history, especially for me as an Iraqi. Baghdad at that time was like what New York is today to the world. After that event, it never bounced back to its former glory.

Muslim American subscriber of yours and I think the video was spot-on in explaining the history of Islam. I also sincerely appreciate your comments regarding how we should view any group in spite of the fringe extremists that attempt to hijack different faiths. Muslims like myself ultimately value nonviolence, families values, devotion to God, and helping those in need. God bless you, friend.

I also chose 1453 as the end of the medieval era, because I also chose the fall of Rome in 476 as the end of Antiquity.

So for me medieval Era starts with the fall of Rome and it ends with the fall of Rome. I think this is poetic.

Not that it matters what I think about the start and end of anything.

For many centuries, lower caste Hindus (Shudras) have converted to Islam to try to escape the caste system.

Honestly, it had been a while since you got into one of these videos from Epic History, there are other topics Epic History has on from China, latest vids on the American Revolution, as well as a step-by-step preview of the lead up to WW2 as well as the codebreaking series if you ever have eyes on those topics from this channel.

39:10 - this part right here is one of the many great things about you and your channel that keep me coming back to watch your videos - you always take the time to show respect and give balance. I'm an atheist so have no skin in the game on any religious position, but I respect everybody's religion equally, and really like how you go to great lengths to do this.

Really heart warming.

27:18 The Battle of Tours (or Poitiers as it's known in French since we don't know the site) in 732 is really overstated, especially by people who tend to view history as a "Clash of Civilizations" like Samuel Huntington. In reality, though it wasn't a mere raid as some people have overcorrected, an Islamic victory wouldn't necessarily have meant a full conquest of Europe, and the battle didn't stop Umayyad incursions into modern-day France. It just stopped them from going through the southwest (Bordeaux, Toulouse etc) and increased the raids in the southeast, up the Rhône river valley. Narbonne, on the Mediterranean coast, remained in Muslim hands until Pepin the Short (Charles Martel's son and Charlemagne's father) conquered it in 759. There was a Muslim outpost called Fraxinetum on the French Riviera as late as 973.

Also the Franks at Tours probably didn't know what Islam was and assumed the "Saracens" in front were either pagans or some form of heretical Christians. And later rulers like Charlemagne allied with the Abbasids or rebelling emirs in Spain against the Umayyad Emirate of Cordoba. Even in the midst of the Crusades, some Crusader states allied with local Muslim states against both other Christian and Muslim states. So you know, the whole "eternal clash of Christianity and Islam" thing is very exaggerated. The truth is, people just adapt to circumstances. Religion can be a factor of conflict but it's rare that it's the only factor.

In 8:50 where the video says that the Quran was an oral tradition and Uthman standardized the Quran, although that's not technically untrue, It was Abu Bakr almost 20 years before Uthman that compiled the Quran with the help of Zayd ibn Thabit and compiled everything into the book we know today. So even though it was Uthman that standardized it and we have no problem with saying that he did because he knew the Quran and the Prophet muhammad very well personally, it was Abu Bakr that started this not even a year after the Prophet's death. A more accurate statement would be that Uthman finished what Abu Bakr started.
