  Back in the day, we used to like riding it at night because there were no lights inside.  It was very very dark (and scary).

  My Dad worked at Douglas in Long Beach but we lived in Los Alamitos when the Matterhorn was being built. &nbsp;He would occasionally go out of his way on the way home with me from Kindergarten to watch the progress. But my folks broke up at the end of 58 and I never saw it finished til my Mom started dating some time in late 59. &nbsp;Because, at the time Disneyland wasn&apos;t so expensive a place to take a single mom on a date. &nbsp;Also, @<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZCtWFp14y4&amp;t=338">5:38</a> the short clip of the Chicken of the Sea restaurant reminded me of how we kids would climb the rigging back then.

  This ride terrified me when I was a kid. I out right refused to ride it. But then one day I decided to just do it. It&apos;s been my favorite ever since.

  Thank you for an amazing exploration of this history. &nbsp;Retired now, but this vividly brings back so many memories of things I workid on, things I saw and people I worked around and with during my 30 years at WDI. &nbsp;I had an opportunity to crawl about on the ancient bones of the mountain, between the ride path rockwork and the mountain exterior. &nbsp;I checked off a bucket list item when I saw the illustrious basketball hoop. &nbsp;My god... the things I saw cannot be conveyed. &nbsp;Wheeow!!! &nbsp;What a ride!

  I tend to leave my stomach behind at the start and pick it up again at the end of the ride. Still pretty fun, but the line was usually too long when I went.

  Bravo 👏 <br>Matterhorn for me as a child in the sixties was a forever memorable experience, I remember it actually having the atmosphere of being near a snowy mountain especially at night all lit up, the ride was rough, I also liked the sky way ride going through the top of the mountain and the sound and special effects up there. I&apos;m so glad to have experienced &nbsp;Disneyland fully within the first two decades.
