I think dam failures go great with the nuclear disasters. People really underestimate the kinetic power of large bodies of water.

I think the common element in all these disasters is that bloke with the clipboard and lab coat. If you see him near your project, keep an eye on the bugger.

According to Russian language sources, the so called “repair” on turbine 2 was carried out with violations of protocol due to kickbacks (they stole the money and didn’t do the job right).
Criminal investigation was launched, but stalled, probably due to the same “kickback” issue.

After one plant was forced to shutdown, another plant was asked to take up the slack, later resulting in disaster

This sounds awefully familiar

“Costing well over 1 billion dollars but what caused Russia’s largest hydroelectric dam to self-destruct?”
Me: .....ummmm....neglect? Like what PD explains in most of these tragic disasters, this was avoidable.

My dad took part in building of this dam, he was a hydroengineer student at that time. He was really depressed about this whole disaster.

I trust the plainly difficult scale... it should be the gold standard of all disasters going forward...

That dam is just asking for a secret british agent to run down the side of it.

"At 8:13am a loud bang rang out in the turbine hall". Ah, Russia. What are we going to do with you?
