  Huh, I had a completely different idea of what Teutoburg Forest was. Such a different interpretation. Always just viewed it as a column ambushed while marching. Never realizing it was over many days, such a tactical maneuver, and that Varus fell on his sword before the battle even really began. Hahah insane.

  Caecina is now my favorite Roman general. To extricate his legions from that seemingly hopeless situation was no mean feat. I wonder what would have happened had he been in command in that forest instead of Varus only a few years previously…
