Bought my SL-1210 mk2 in 1989 and it's still alive and kicking - a true masterpiece

Bought mine in 1997 when i was 18. Still there, running and even the light has never been replaced.

There is a reason they became the industry standard for so long. 99% of DJs owned them and expected them to be in the booths they played in. I nearly sold mine in 2010, I packed them away in my loft instead for 5/6 years, when I got them back out i was so glad I'd kept them and all my records, they still worked perfectly. Legendary DJ tools.

one of my best friends that I became really close with through music had a pair. I'd known him since the start of secondary school (high school), because he was the only guy who liked the same music as I did. We were 16 when we properly started hanging out together with some other friends when school ended around 2000. He was an avid dj and I used to go around to his house and watch him play. He was absolute an monster behind the decks and he swore by his 1210 mark 2's! He passed away due to a complication during a surgery he had. Life is crazy when you're that young and have a mate that you are constantly around then all of a sudden he's gone. A few years back his mom told me she still had his decks and asked me if I wanted them because she didn't want to give them to a stranger. What's funny is since then I've started to dj myself and I regularly play in clubs and bars around Manchester. I've been collecting vinyl recently and I've got those old girls setup ready to play. In my head they still belong to him. I'm just looking after them 🥲

Watching Carl Cox play a set in the 1990's at the Johannesburg train station from above on 3 sets of Technic's is something I'll never forget!

On top of being rugged and reliable, they're also amazingly maintainable and repairable. Tons of parts are interchangeable between generations, they're customizable, and you can get new replacements for pretty much every part on it. Not to mention the massive knowledge base and documentation on them. Doesn't get any better than that!

Just had the mk1 sl1200 serviced and, in the words of the engineer , it’s good for its next 30 years (it’s already over 50)

Pitch control made them what they are in the DJ world. That one simple feature that would do most listeners no real good as they were marketed to, changed how records would be played forever.

It took me a lot of time and effort to save up for my 1210s as a teenager in the late 90s. I worked a ton of hours in the supermarket one summer, and I was so pleased when I finally bought a pair. You couldn't wipe the smile off my face. 😁

They got a lot of use, and got taken to a lot of parties, but I always tried to look after them because of the effort I put into saving for them.

I still have them today. I gave them a little clean up, and they look and perform just about as good as new. My plan is to keep them that way until I'm no longer around.
