  Blame it on the  National Education Association and inept school committees, which refuse to teach American History as it should be taught

  When I Was a child in 1957 I talked my parents into driving  to Williamsburg VA. I was enthralled at the beauty and symmetry of the buildings - something I never experienced as a child in the Bronx. I returned once again as a young bride, and again when my children were pre-teens.

  I currently live here. I can tell you that I walk DoG st at least once a week. &nbsp;Yankee didn&apos;t close because of lower tourists, it closed because of Covid. With the addition of Merchants Square there is a lot more traffic. Residents know that while we may hate summer traffic, it&apos;s to our benefit.<br>There is a new museum, there will be a new performance area and the archeological draws are massive. Sorry, we&apos;re doing fine.<br>Those motels closed because they were old &amp; gross and no one took proper care of them. They were completely outdated and in bad parts of the city.<br>There are 3 major golf courses that attract some big players and the bigger hotels have built resorts here that are thriving.<br>We&apos;re doing just fine.

  My husband and I went every Christmas &nbsp;for many years, many years. We loved Williamsburg. One year we had our little dog with us , we were getting Hungary and looking at the menu posted outside for something we could take out. There was a lady in costume sitting outside. She offered to watch our little dog so we could eat inside. We accepted her kind offer and enjoyed a wonderful lunch. They had many great restaurants . I often went with friends, some of whom had time shares in the Williamsburg area. I loved shopping in <br>The stores in the restored area.sadly in 2018 I had a very serious back surgery and could no longer &nbsp;walk long distances. We did carriage rides &nbsp;. That was not what I wanted &nbsp;to do. My husband died in December 2021 and I have not been since. I really miss our Christmas visits.

  Having worked in the CW archives and with the original restoration blue prints, I can honestly say the work that went into its restoration is far more impressive than you can see in a short video.

Returned with visitors from Europe; with my parents &amp; new wife; with my boys. NEVER diasppointed. I found this nascent seed of American democracy deeply moving. I saw the kitchens, the blacksmith, the paper manufacturer, the printer, the cabinetmaker and many others. I guided an Italian tourist who asked me to show him &quot;were dey mak-a da boods&quot;, and watched him discover the roots of his own craft. &nbsp;<br>I&apos;m Swiss now. Here, and in Germany, and in Ukraine, I have visited open-air museums with old buildings transported from all over to re-create old settlements, demonstrate old folkways and customs. Williamsburg, however, is unique: the crafts, the people, the scale. Go. See. Learn. Cherish.

  Spring break 2021 we went and it was fun. We did Yorktown, Jamestown, colonial Williamsburg and Busch gardens

  I visited Williamsburg in 1974 and again in 2000 with my kids. Was a wonderful trip! Very sad that American history not taught as much in schools. No wonder pride in our country not what it used to be. Kids not exposed to our rich history.

  I grew up very close to Williamsburg back in the 1960s. When Williamsburg had more tourists then motel rooms, they would sometimes call my mom and we would have overnight tourists in our home, with me sleeping on a bench in the family room. It was interesting growing up there, walking Dog St. (Duke of Gloucester St.) and sneaking over the Palace walls. Still looks pretty much the same, maybe a few less people. Every year we visit to see the Christmas decorations. Worth a trip by itself.

  I visited in about 1952 on a school trip. &nbsp;Age about 9. &nbsp;It was impressively wonderful.
