I live in the Czech Republic, and I once spotted this rifle at a 300-meter range, so I decided I had to find out what kind of accuracy it was capable of... The owner was using a bipod and preparing to shoot at a standard target 300 meters away; the center circle had a diameter of 5 cm... I was expecting a much wider spread... I was watching his target through a high-power spotting scope and couldn't believe my eyes... the first three shots landed inside that 5 cm center circle... Only the fourth shot went slightly off-center, but it was a very close call—just about 1 cm away from the center ring... Ever since then, I’ve had great respect for this rifle!!!

Unfortunately, the price tag for these rifles and the Hungarian FEG reflect the status of the Dragunov! The cool factor of the SVD is hard to beat!

What stood out to me was that the SVD wasn't designed to be the most accurate rifle possible—it was designed to be accurate enough while still surviving mud, cold, poor maintenance, and ordinary ammunition. That tradeoff seems to be why its basic concept lasted for decades.

I always thought of the SVD as a sniper rifle, but this changed my perspective completely. It was really the first true designated marksman rifle, built to keep an ordinary platoon effective at 600–800 meters. Do you think the Soviets were simply decades ahead in squad-level doctrine?

Dragunov : Gives me nostalgia, it reminds me of the Delta Force game I used to play around 2003 ..

I thought the Russian round was 7.62 x 54, not 7.62 x 51, as the narrator says. Soooo many mis-pronouunced
words.

At 8:05 when it said "a rifffleman's rifle".... had me cracking up!

Actually from what I understand the dragunov was in response to many of the NATO countries adopting the FN FAL with its extended range and accuracy.
