  The observation that Christians would never make these convoluted and implausible arguments regarding these contradictions if these texts weren&apos;t parts of the Bible is so important.<br><br>I never hear Christian apologists twisting logic onto pretzels in order to reconcile the Iliad&apos;s claim that Aphrodite was the daughter of Zeus and Dione with the Theogony&apos;s account of her springing forth from the foam formed when Uranus&apos; severed genitals fell into the sea. 😂

  I gotta say your book &quot;The Bible Says So&quot; and Bart Ehrman&apos;s &quot;How Jesus Became God&quot; is a great introduction to deconstructing my faith. Thanks for the work that you do in social media space where it is much needed to combat all the misinformation out there.

  One contradiction I don&apos;t hear a lot about is the story of Balaam...everyone is so distracted by that darn donkey, they ignore the fact that God TOLD him to go with the Moabites, and THEN got so angry that he went with them, that he sent his angel to KILL him for...doing what God told him to do! I don&apos;t know what the apologetic or scholarly consensus for this is, but my own guess is that this is an artifact of an earlier story that featured multiple gods (like Ea and Enlil) working at cross purposes, but when they revised it to fit the &quot;newer model&quot; of monotheism, they kept the basic plot, but just kinda ignored the fact that the story now makes no sense with just one god involved. Not that this sort of thing is necessarily out of character for God, he also turns on Moses in a similar way when he was on his way to do God&apos;s bidding in Egypt...🤷‍♂

  The Elhanan one is the best of the five because you can watch the repair happen in real time. 2 Samuel <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v7sgaTLtXUI&amp;t=1279">21:19</a> has Elhanan killing Goliath. Chronicles has Elhanan killing Lahmi, brother of Goliath. Then the KJV italicises the brother of into 2 Samuel, so English readers get Chronicles&apos; fix retrofitted into Samuel without being told a fix occurred. The contradiction was never hidden in the Hebrew. It got hidden in the translation history.

  Another good one is who purchased Joseph when he was sold into slavery, the Ishmaelites or the Midianites, because the account can&apos;t keep that one straight.

  Regarding your point about other texts&apos; contradictions being accepted as merely differing traditions or tellings of the story being relayed, I feel it&apos;s important to point out to the apologists hearing that statement that even believers/followers of those traditions accept that there are different versions of the same stories. I&apos;m specifically referring to the Baghavad Gita (and, by extension, the Mahabharata, Ramayana, etc.) wherein the texts themselves often include some level of disclaimer that the teller is relating the story to the best of their knowledge, but this happened ages ago and nobody who saw it is still here to ensure perfect accuracy. Many times, a guru will preface a story with something along the lines of &quot;this is not true but it is a truth&quot; or asking forbearance from the Divine for mistakes that are likely to be made in the retelling. Some stories even start with, &quot;This is how this story is told in this one region, but other regions tell it differently&quot;. There are, of course, zealots who will dogmatize and concretize their favorite version and use it as an excuse to abuse and oppress others. It is not my claim that any faith tradition is more right or less prone to the failings of human behavior.

  I am atheist, philospher by training and got interested in Bible studies inspired by this channel. I think the Genesis &quot;contradiction&quot; is an entirely differrent category.<br><br>Of course, on the translation part, you are most likely correct. However, I feel the researchers suggesting we should keep in mind we <i>dont know</i> what the original editor wanted to express when putting next to each other the two crearion accounts does not sound an overreach to me. Asserting it was a &quot;meh&quot; is an oversimplification in my eyes.<br><br>This, of course, does not save the apologist claims, but puts it in a very different category than harmonizing Luke, Matthew and Acts or the Goliath story.
